Chicks-n-Chickens Hatches Donation Plan

May 30, 2008

Darcy Albrecht and Jennifer Ashdown had only just launched their new chicks-n-chickens on-line store when they decided to donate a portion of their proceeds to the Alameda Education Foundation.

“We’re really concerned about what’s happening in the schools,” notes Ashdown, the company’s VP of Business Development. “The state budget cuts could impact all the children in this community. And I truly believe we need to have an educated society if we’re going to have a democratic society.”

Adds founder and president Albrecht, “This is our way of giving back to the community.”

chicks-n-chickens, which offers products for both chicks (i.e., women) and chickens (i.e., babies and kids) launched in early March. In addition to clothes, gifts, baby carriers, and jewelry, the site offers an exclusive “Lullaby Exercises” DVD/CD that leads mothers through a series of swinging, swaying, and dancing movements designed to soothe baby and help mom become more fit.

“We’re hoping that our stepping up to help the schools will inspire other businesses on the Island to do the same,” notes Ashdown. “After all, if a tiny hatchling of a company like ours can do this, why can’t someone else?”
