The AEF Adopt-A-Classroom program makes it easy for members of the community to support teachers and students. We direct 100% of your donation to the teacher who uses the funds to purchase critical resources and materials, transforming the classroom into a vibrant center for learning. If you don’t have a specific teacher you’d like to support, the Alameda Education Foundation will direct your Adopt-a-Class donation to teachers not yet adopted in a random drawing ranked by need.

Thank you to Bank of Alameda for being our 2008-2009 Adopt-a-Classroom Sponsor.

What does it mean to “adopt” a classroom?
By adopting a classroom, you serve as a community partner to a classroom providing financial and moral support to the teacher and students.
Does adopting a classroom “make a difference”?
You bet! By adopting a classroom, you are providing the teacher with additional funds to purchase hands-on learning materials. In addition, by serving as a community partner, you are positively impacting teacher morale. Empirical data supports that these two factors increase opportunity for classroom success.
Is there a donation size requirement?
Each class adoption is $500. No more. No less.  This keeps it fair for all participants in this program.
Is my contribution tax deductible?
Yes. the Alameda Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization. All contributions are tax deductible.
Can I adopt more than one classroom?
Yes. You can adopt as many classrooms as you like.  Please submit $500 per classroom.
Does Adopt-A-Classroom give the teachers cash?
The AEF Adopt-a-Classroom program provides each teacher with a personal check for $500. Each teacher is then required to submit a Donation Use form in order to be qualified for the next year’s donation process.
What may teachers purchase with the donation?
Teachers may use the donated funds to purchase resources such as learning games, books, manipulatives and other materials that help them create an engaging and effective classroom learning environment. Teachers may also use the funds for field trips, assemblies or additional student impact programs.
What more is required of me other than making a donation?
Nothing more is required, but we encourage you to support the classroom beyond the donation.

We welcome sponsors to schedule a classroom visit by calling the teacher directly.

Note:  We only process one Adoption per teacher per school year, e.g. a teacher is not eligible for multiple adoptions in a given school year.

Please consider also making an annual donation to AEF’s general fund so that we may continue our work in Supporting Student Success.
