Class Descriptions 
LEGO PRE-ENGINEERING

(WINTER)

Have your child become a Play-Well Engineer!  Build cities, bridges, motorized cars and planes.  With access to over 100,000 pieces of LEGO, students build what they have only dreamed of with the support of an experienced Play-Well Engineering instructor.

GUITAR

(WINTER)

Beginning and intermediate guitar lessons including base and drums to create the fun experience of children’s rock band. In this class the students learn guitar cords, riffs, songs and skills they can utilise immediately for rock band performance. Guitars provided. Each student is given a guitar to take home, practise with and play. The guitar is included in the price of the class.

SUPER SCHOLARS KINDER CLUB

(WINTER AND SPRING)

Kinder Club is a class for students to review the skills they are learning in Kindergarten including identification of letters, letter sounds, sight words, rhyming words, numbers 1-30, as well as sums and differences to 10. If appropriate, students will have the opportunity to preview some of the first grade sight words, read leveled books, write more than one sentence about a topic, and explore sums and differences to 20.

MAD SCIENCE – EXTRAORDINARY EARTH

(WINTER)

Come explore the wonders of our planet as we become geologists and learn about magnets, the formation of mountains, and all about the types of rocks and minerals. We will also focus on the impact that weather can have on our daily lives, investigate earthquakes, volcanoes, and fossils. Take something home at the end of each class including your own gemstone, grass plant, shark tooth, and floating magnets. 

CHESS

(WINTER)

Do you love to play games that challenge the mind? Then chess is the game for you. No experience necessary. Learn the history of the game, names of the pieces and how they move, great opening moves, the object of the game, and how to work pieces together. Moves, strategies, and checkmate patterns will be taught according to the readiness of participants. This class is designed for students of all ability levels.

KARATE

(WINTER AND SPRING)

Wado Ki Kai Karate uses traditional and contemporary training styles.  Primarily Okinawa-Japanese based Karate.  This Martial Arts incorporates traditional Kata’s (forms), Korean Kicking techniques from Tae Kwon Do, flexibility and tumbling as in gymnastics and practical Self-Defense skills.  Focusing on techniques rather than strength or size.  Students will improve self-esteem through the disciplines of practice, concentration, proper breathing and goal setting.  Students will get the opportunity to test for their next rank and color belt at the end of each session.

ISLAND DANCE –TAHITIAN STYLE

(WINTER)

The kids adore this fun upbeat dance class with Ms Corpuz! Enjoy the rhythm and beat of island music as they learn basic Tahitian Style dance steps.

MANDARIN

(WINTER AND SPRING)

Students learn Pinyin, conversation, characters, singing, games, etc. The class allows students to actively participate for developing their interest in Chinese language and culture to best meet each child’s needs and goals.

LIQUID DANCE

(WINTER)

A combination of liquid dance, and hip hop, this class will get your muscle’s working while you are having fun. You will learn a choreographed routine over a course of a few weeks, adding a little more each week.  You will learn techniques like, muscle isolation, liquid hands, and

footwork. Teaches rhythm, and coordination, develops strength, flexibility, and confidence. Bring water and wear comfortable clothes. No jeans please.

 

SEWING

(WINTER)

Learn the basics of hand sewing. Students will also learn decorative stitching and the class end with a fun machine sewing project. All levels welcome.

MAD SCIENCE EXPERIMENTS

(SPRING)

We’ll explore and create exciting chemical reactions, make colorful concoctions and bubbling brews. Amaze yourself with magical temperature changing baggie science or growing ghost crystals.  Study the chemistry involved in not-so-simple things like chalk and soap, and even experiment with the chemistry used by artists, spies and detectives!  Chemists bring home a project each day. 

ISLAND DANCE –PHILIPPINE STYLE

(SPRING)

The kids adore this fun upbeat dance class with Ms Corpuz! Enjoy the rhythm and beat of island music as they learn basic Philippine Style dance steps. 

BASKETBALL

(SPRING)

Introducing AFTER SCHOOL HOOPS®, a weekday afternoon basketball program for aspiring young players. The one hour instructional sessions combine fundamental skills instruction with organized team competition with the goal of providing an enjoyable and educational after school athletic event. Developing players benefit by improving their individual skills such as passing, dribbling, shooting, rebounding, and defending while, at the same time, learning how to work within the framework of a team. Boys and girls of all skill levels are encouraged to join.

SALSA AND JAZZ DANCE

(SPRING)

In this class, students will have a jazz warm-up and learn beginning jazz combinations, introductory salsa steps, and several dance routines choreographed to upbeat tunes from Latin America!

 

AFTER SCHOOL SOCCER

(SPRING)

One on One provides a multitude of After School Sports programs throughout the year.  One of our signature programs is After School Soccer, This program provides experienced instructors who bring valuable knowledge and youthful enthusiasm to the game.  Join One on One for After School Soccer at Edison Elementary School. Throughout the spring One on One will conduct a one hour clinic, once a week, for you and your friends. These clinics will help you become a better player through drills, contests, and game competition.

LEGO ENGINEERING FUNDAMENTALS

(SPRING)

Have your child become a Play-Well Engineer!  Students explore concepts in physics, architecture, mechanical and structural engineering, from Gear Cars to Battletracks.  The engineer-designed curriculum challenges new and returning students to reach higher levels of engineering comprehension while having fun. 

MR D’S MUSIC CLUB

(SPRING)

~ So much more than just a glee club! ~ 

It’s a music lovin’,singing, moving, shaking, songwriting, recording, producing, designing, spectacular creative multi dimensional music program for Boys and for Girls of all ages and abilities.  In short there’s something for just about everyone!!

 

AEF Cancellation/Refund policy:

 

o     If a class is canceled due to low enrollment, participants will receive their full tuition refund.

o     Cancellations initiated by the participant, must be requested a minimum of 5 business days prior to the start of the class.  Credit for the cancelled class will be applied to your AEF account less a $15.00 processing fee.  This request must be made in writing to your school site enrichment coordinator

 

*****CLASS ESCORTS NEEDED*****

 

WE MUST PROVIDE A VOLUNTEER ESCORT FOR ANY CLASS THAT HAS A CHILD ENROLLED IN ONSITE AFTERCARE.

 

A credit for a future class will be given to the volunteer who escorts children to/from onsite aftercare:

For a 4-6 week class,  $25 class credit

For a 7-10 week class  $40 class credit

For an 11-24 week class, $60 class credit
