Supporting Student Success – February 2016

bill-yosemiteDear Friend,

The wisdom of first graders was apparent during the AEF monthly Adopt A Classroom in January. After giving a teacher a check for $500, I ask the students for suggestions on how to use the money for their classroom. A boy in one class said, “I would rather give gifts then get gifts” and another boy in different classroom said “We should give some money to the poor.” I left those classrooms thinking we have some outstanding Alameda citizens masquerading as first grade students in our schools.

The AEF participated in the annual Kiwanis’ Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, January 30th. Our championship chili took third place in the People’s Choice division. Congratulations to the winners and a Big Thank You to the Kiwanis  for their commitment to our community.

Good luck to the class of 2016 as they embark on their final semester.

Sincerely,
Bill Sonneman

Daniel told the coach he was having a hard time making friends and was feeling ‘bummed out’. The coach suggested sports as a way for him to get involved.
