This year, AUSD’s Student Support Services department partnered with Alameda Family Services to provide whole-class social emotional lessons for grades K-5 in the opening weeks of school. AUSD and AFS staff and therapists worked in classrooms with 3-days of mini lessons focused on inclusivity, kindness, and being an 'upstander', reading books and working on projects with students. AEF helped fund needed markers, bookmarks, and poster papers for small arts and craft projects that students could take home or keep in the classroom as a reminder of what was covered.
By laying a proactive foundation of positive behavior expectations for our K-5 students, AUSD staff hope to see a reduction in student conflict, bullying-like behavior, and/or mental health needs.
