These programs are open to TK - 8 students who attend any AUSD or Alameda public charter school.

Registration Information
- Registration is online. Please click the “Register for Franklin Classes” button below to view classes and access the online registration system when the registration period has started.
- Please be sure you understand the Policies and Procedures of the After School Enrichment Program before you register. Read them by clicking here.
Prices will increase by $10 after February 1, 2024.
AEF Registration and Refund Policies
- Registration closes at 11:59 PM 2 business days prior to start of class.
- Late enrollments will be accepted as space allows. There is a $20 processing fee for late registrations.
- If a class is canceled due to low enrollment, participants will receive a full refund.
- Transfers must be requested a minimum of 7 days prior to the start of class. There is a $20 processing fee for transfers.
- Cancellations up to 14 days before the class start date can be made via your account on Active Online Camp and Class Manager for a refund back to your original form of payment minus a $20 fee. If you cancel between 14 and 7 days prior to the start of the class via your account on Active Online Camp and Class Manager, credit will be applied to your AEF account minus a $20 processing fee. There is no refund for cancellations within 7 days of the class start date.
Scholarships for Enrichment classes are available as follows:
- Student/family is enrolled in a food assistance program – 90%
- Student/family qualifies for assistance under the McKinney-Vento Act, Alameda Point Collaborative, or similar program or is experiencing particular hardship – 100%;
- For parents or guardians requesting assistance but who are not covered under the above conditions, please contact AEF at Enrichment@AlamedaEducation.org.
To request a scholarship for your student, please click here and fill out the online form. Upon completion of the application form you must scan/email proof that your student is enrolled in a food assistance program. The scholarship will not be approved until proof is received. You MUST send within 48 hours of completing this form. We will not follow up and ask for the proof. It is your responsibility to get this to us. Scan and email it to Enrichment@AlamedaEducation.org.

Firecracker Math camp is for curious and challenge-loving kids. Math problems and challenges are combined with games, math-based magic tricks, hands-on activities and contests. We aim to show our students that math can be incredibly creative, exciting and fun.

A high-energy workout promoting leadership through group teamwork with stamina-driven fitness. Basic dance steps are introduced with an educational overview of historical appreciation of Hip-Hop movement from Popping, Locking and Break Dancing to current popular movement. Calling all guitar players — beginning and experienced! This course is designed for young minds who have an interest in learning to play guitar. Within a group setting, students will learn the basics of guitar playing (proper technique, correct strumming patterns and music theory as it applies to the guitar. Starting right at the beginning then progressing to playing tunes in no time! As progress develops, we'll begin how to play music together as a small ensemble. Fun for all! Please note: Students must provide their own instrument.

WINTER - Beginner & Intermediate Chess

This combination of beginner and intermediate level class will cover/review chess basics (chessboard terminology and square identification; how the various pieces move and capture, plus their relative values; pawn promotion; the crucial concepts of check, checkmate, and stalemate; the special move of castling; opening goals and principles; basic endgame checkmates using major pieces; and last but not least, good chess etiquette) on a class-wide basis or individually during supervised play as needed. Instruction will otherwise focus on learning tactics and strategy through the explanation of games and positions from historical players and events, and/or current top-level competitions.
AEF/ACC afterschool chess classes are divided (roughly in half) time-wise between instruction and supervised play. The instructor will organize and run an unofficial tournament during the last 3-5 weeks of this level course, with labeled medals as awards for all participants upon completion.
All enrolled students earn and accumulate points towards ACC's Royalty Loyalty Program (RLP) rewards by participating in the instruction half of class and playing with good chess etiquette afterward. RLP rewards consist of chess-related items, including chess puzzle books and equipment.
With its nearly 1,500 years of history, chess is arguably the greatest and most popular board game of all time. Numerous studies have suggested that learning and playing chess at an early age can yield various benefits regarding cognitive skills. Confidence, decision-making, and sportsmanship are other areas of potential improvement. The benefits and enjoyment of chess can last a lifetime!

In this series of classes, Mandar, an award winning artist based in Alameda, will provide an immersion in the key fundamentals of acrylic painting. He will do demos with his own easel set up in every class. He will encourage individuality and inspired action. The class will paint many exciting subjects in an impressionist style. From the writer’s room to the silver screen, we'll guide you as you turn your idea into an amazing script, and then we'll help you bring it to life! All students are divided into production teams; together, they'll brainstorm their ideas, and then collaboratively draft a script with a part for everyone. As students work, we'll hold group workshops, where we help them with their script formatting, character design, dialogue and more! Then we move onto filming! Students will act out their own scripts, starring in the parts they themselves wrote. They'll also take turns behind the camera, shooting with iPads. We'll give guidance to students as they star in, film, and edit their movies with experienced advice on special effects and green-screen editing, shot composition and panning, lighting and sound effects. Each movie will be shown at the end of the class and a copy with a custom poster sent home!

Rembrandts’ Enchanted Academy Summer Art Workshop. Be prepared to be whisked away to an enchanted academy where nothing is as it seems. Experience the majesty of the great dining hall as our students illustrate a beautiful graphic. Amuse yourself in the not-so-ordinary life of the academy with a plethora of cartoon drawings. From drawing an enchanted forest to a day at the races with dragons, it’s nothing but fun in our classroom. The final day of the Enchanted Academy Workshop will introduce our students to pastel chalks as they create a whimsical drawing of a phoenix. No prior experience is needed.
