Encinal Student Wins Photography Award
Alameda Education Foundation is a strong supporter of AUSD’s Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways program that provides hands-on learning designed to prepare students with 21st century job skills.
CTE Program Director Felicia Vargas reached out to AEF for help with a special project. Maggie Adams, a CTE Digital Film pathway teacher at Encinal Junior & Senior High School (EJSHS), includes essential elements of photo composition in her course. Ms. Adams recently shared her students’ final photo projects, and there were over 100 photographs that were worthy of printing for multiple displays at Encinal and at the district office. Ms. Adams needed funding to purchase wall display bars to enable to photos to be displayed easily on her classroom walls.
AEF stepped in to fund that request through our Teacher Mini Grant program.
Felicia Vargas reported back:
“MOF carpenters mounted half of the display rails in Maggie’s classroom so she was able to display student work for the EJSHS Open House last week. Maggie posed with her student Sabastian Saechao who found out today that his photo was selected as one of the winners of the Bay Area Creative Foundation’s 2023 Creative Youth Awards for photography! Here is a link to see Sebastian’s amazing photo titled “The Bay”. Thank you, AEF, for supporting CTE!”
Additional 2023 Creative Youth Winners from EHS included:
- Lainey Calnin – Silent Film titled Der Vampir
- Violet Sorenson – Photograph titled Paralysis of Depression
- Sarah Berhane – Photograph titled Cat Crossing
