On October 8th, AEF was honored to receive an “Impact in Education” award by Representative Rob Bonta of the 18th assembly district. We are delighted to be recognized for our work!

Come Run on the Island and Support AEF

AEF is proud to be a beneficiary of the Alameda Running Festival on September 15th.

The Alameda Running Festival incorporates a Half Marathon, 10k, 5k, and Family Fun Run. The event will start and finish in the Alameda Point and highlight several beautiful areas around the island. This event also benefits Alameda Meals on Wheels.

Ruby Bridges Elementary Sweeps Local Robotics Competition

The Ruby Bridges robotics teams show off their trophies from the third annual Alameda Robotics competition, which was held on May 11, 2019 at Wood Middle School. The Robotics competition is a partnership of the Alameda Robotics Center under the director of Wood Middle School teacher Nga Nguyen, Wood Middle School, and the Alameda Education Foundation (AEF).

Over 80 students participate in Robotics competition!

Members of the Ruby Bridges robotics team work on their spacecraft during the 2018 Robotics competition for students in grades 4 – 8 that was held at Wood Middle School on May 12th. Over 80 students representing 12 teams from 6 Alameda public schools participated in the competition. First place went to Wood Middle School’s Well Done Pepes. A tie for second was between the Franklin Elementary Vaccines and Bay Farm Dolphins.

Student Art Across the Island

Bay Farm middle schoolers studied lunar landscapes taken by the Hubble Telescope to inspire their artwork. Franklin students were inspired by Jackson Pollack and Ruby Bridges students by Monet. Academy of Alameda students thought about individuals who have made a difference in the world and honored them with collage portraits.

These are just a few samples of student artwork now on display as part of the Alameda Education Foundation’s “Art Across the Island,”

Salute to Education to Honor Alameda Innovative School Programs on April 21st

Lum Elementary 3rd grade teachers recognize that some students have the “wiggles” and Lum has implemented a flexible seating environment, including stand up desks and stools that let students wiggle while they sit; these flexible learning spaces accommodate the individuality of Lum students.

Encinal Jr. and Sr. High School teacher Paul Igaz has created a multi-media program where students make films and get to act like an adult behind the camera and play like a kid in front of it.
