Posters A Collaboration Between AHS Dance and Multimedia Programs
Alameda High School Multimedia Teacher Andrea Szeto asked AEF for help in getting some fabulous posters created by students printed for display at the high school. AEF provided the funding to get this done.
Snazzy Posters Adorn Hallways Promoting AHS Dance Showcase
Alameda High School Dance teacher Rachel McCray Denton and Multimedia teacher Andrea Szeto just completed a collaborative project that is now on display in the hallways at Alameda High. Dance posters, designed to promote the upcoming Alameda High Spring Dance Showcase, were created by Career Technical Education (CTE) graphic design students in Ms. Szeto’s class and feature Ms. McCray Denton’s students modeling various dance poses and movements. Multimedia students teamed up with specific dancers and photographed them. Each team worked together to review and select the best photo that the graphic design students used to create a unique poster featuring each of the dancers who will perform for the AHS Spring Dance Showcase. Alameda Education Foundation provided a generous teacher mini grant to support the printing.
Ms. McCray Denton said, “This project has been one of the highlights of this semester. Ms. Szeto is so easy to work with and it has been great fostering our collaborative relationship. I have loved seeing the dance students look at art from a different perspective. All the work we do in class is completely movement based. This was their first time focusing on art that was static. The students were great at problem solvers and all took well to peer feedback. I look forward to doing this again next year and I am so proud of all of our students’ work.”
Ms. Szeto added, “This was a fantastic opportunity for Multimedia students to use their photography and design skills for a meaningful outcome. There were many new challenges but it was also fun and exciting. I’m not sure who enjoyed working together more, the students or the teachers!”
