Renate Westbrooks is the Equity & Family Engagement Coordinator at Ruby Bridges Elementary School. (She is also on the Board of the Alameda Education Foundation.) Her goal is to promote equity and inclusion through community service projects that highlight the beautiful cultural diversity at Ruby Bridges, and to celebrate that with students and their families. She needed help funding the books, flags, posters, and other school projects needed to create a more empathetic climate at school and within the community.
With no site or PTA funds available for this project, Ms. Westbrooks turned to AEF for help. AEF was pleased to support this program as part of its mission to highlight equity and inclusion, particularly at Title 1 schools in Alameda.
