Sponsoring African American and Multi-Ethnic Family Session
Danielle Pharr-Matthews, Principal at Ruby Bridges Elementary, wanted to create a special event for families in her school community where African American and Multi-ethnic parents, guardians and students would be able to share stories and ask questions in a caring environment. Danielle asked AEF to help sponsor this event and we were happy to do so as it was aligned with our focus on equity.
Here’s what Principal Pharr-Matthews wrote after the event:
“A tremendous round of applause for your support to our Ruby Stars and families. We are so grateful for your financial donation [from AEF] to support our first African American and Multi-ethnic family listening session.
The evening began with a community circle where families and students shared their hopes for the future. This was followed by student presentations. After presenting, students were dismissed with treats to indulge in while the adults met to discuss the current state and needs for Ruby learners. The evening wrapped up with dinner for all and raffle prizes to go.
Because of your generosity, we had a wonderful evening. Thank you for your kindness and care, our community is appreciative of you and looks forward to future gatherings.”
