AEF Funds Two FabLab Instructors

FabLab at Island HighAEF funded stipends for two FabLab instructors from College of Alameda who will assist Gerard Dumuk in starting the Engineering course and coordinate workshop sessions for students at CoA’s FabLab. Gerard has set up the Fab Lab equipment and the Island High students are already producing products. This shelving in the photo was made with a 3D printer.

This class provides students with an opportunity to learn schematics, problem-solving, computer skills, math, and real world applications,” says Dumuk, as he watches three students collaborate on setting up one of several 3-D printers in the classroom. “It also gives students a chance to explore what they might be interested in. Some might really gravitate toward graphics and design. Others might like vinyl design or laser and CNC cutting.”

Teacher Mini-Grants are a key component of AEF’s renewed focus on equity; our grants prioritize teachers at Title I schools and of special programs (i.e. SPED, ELL).
