Teacher Mini Grant FAQs

AEF Teacher Mini Grants

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible for a Mini Grant?

Alameda public (AUSD) and charter school Preschool -12th grade educators may apply for AEF Teacher Mini Grants. Grants are prioritized for educators at schools that receive Title I funding, educators who work with students who are multi-lingual or have learning differences, or educators in other special programs (intervention, Department of Equity, etc.)

What is the grant range?

Typical grants range from $250 to $1000. Each request will be reviewed independently, and decisions depend on available funds. Items purchased with grant money are property of the school site.

When are grant requests reviewed?

Grant applications are reviewed on a monthly basis. Grants will be awarded from October through March/April of each school year or for as long as there are funds.

What kind of needs/projects does AEF fund?

AEF Mini Grants fund a wide range of needs and projects. Examples include classroom books reflecting the cultural diversity of students, branded water bottles to welcome high school students to a new campus, hands-on science kits, learning programs for special education students, and art supplies. We also fund technology-related needs (see the bottom of this page), such as tools (3-D printers), educational opportunities (Career Technical Education) and field trips. See testimonials and sample projects from grant recipients on our website. We also fund registration fees for professional development classes (the professional development request must be approved by the site admin).

Should I check with my Principal or PTA before applying?

Yes. These grants are to be applied only if other district or site funding, such as PTA, is not available.

How will I receive my grant?

Grants will be in the form of a check made out to the recipient or business indicated and sent via intra-district mail. Please note that AEF does not process pass-through donations to specific teachers.
