Encinal High Students Visit Sacramento State

For many of our students, visiting a college campus is not always an option. Having the opportunity to tour a campus often has a transformational impact on students’ knowledge and awareness of college life, and helps inspire their future educational path.

Lee Kaplan, Encinal High School College & Career Counselor wrote:

Forty-four Encinal students visited Sacramento State on March 4th. We were able to take a campus tour, visit the recreation center, bookstore and enjoyed lunch in the dining hall thanks to AEF.

We learned about Sacramento State’s academic programs and student opportunities, including a wide range of majors, internships, research opportunities, and partnerships with employers through its Career Center. Highlights include their new Black Honors College and the first Native American College in the California State University system, which focus on leadership, culture, and community-based learning.

The campus itself was beautiful with more than 3,700 trees, artwork and access to outdoor recreation along the American River Parkway. Key facilities include The WELL, a large recreation and wellness center with fitness equipment, an indoor track, and a climbing wall, and modern residence halls like the American River Courtyard. Campus life is active, with 400+ student organizations, NCAA Division I athletics, and frequent arts and cultural events. Students also benefit from sustainability initiatives and research centers that focus on solving real-world issues such as energy, food, and environmental challenges.

Overall it was a fantastic and inspiring learning experience for Encinal students and staff!
