‘Art Across the Island’ on Display Around Town

New artwork from Alameda students is on display at several Alameda libraries and Books Inc. through Alameda Education Foundation’s Art Across the Island program.

Students from Love Elementary School teacher Scott Hixon’s third-grade class made abstract drawings, which they cut apart and then wove with pieces of construction paper. Their pieces are inspired by artist Miguel Arzabe, who is known for filling canvases with paint then cutting them into strips and weaving the pieces into a completely new work.

The art pieces are on display at the children’s section of the Alameda Main Library (1550 Oak St.). It will be on display until Monday, Oct. 31.

Other pieces in the Art Across the Island program include butterflies from Earhart Elementary School fifth graders at Bay Farm Island Library, flowers inside face portraits from second graders at Ruby Bridges Elementary School at the West End Library, and more.
