This article in the San Jose Mercury News underscores the need for AEF to continue to do the work that we do.There is simply not enough State funding to meet the needs of our public schools. AEF strives to fill the gaps by raising funds to support needs at lower-income schools, and by running programs that would otherwise not exist, like middle school sports, teacher mini grants and after school enrichment. Also, shout out to our own AEF’s Administrative Assistant as well as Love PTA President Vanessa Acevedo-Reed for her thoughtful contributions to this article!

For the fourth year in a row, the Alameda Education Foundation has provided financial support for another full school year of Care Solace for the District. Care Solace is a complimentary and confidential care coordination service that connects AUSD students, staff, and families in need with appropriate mental health care services. The wraparound service provides equitable access to care regardless of coverage, including private insurance, Medicaid, and sliding scale options for those without insurance.

Our After School Enrichment class listings are up, so please take a look at what’s on offer this Fall! New classes include Coding with Athena, Ukulele, Acrylic Painting and Flag Football. Every school has their own custom offerings, but students may attend classes at other schools. In addition, we have Alameda Wide classes (Grades 1-8) that are specifically designed for students from any school to attend, including Middle Schoolers. Click here to learn more.

English Learners sporting “Multilingualism is my Super Power!” t-shirts took a field trip to San Francisco last week to see the sights, practice English, and revel in being someone who speaks more than one language. (The t-shirts were paid for by a grant from the Alameda Education Foundation to help instructors keep track of students on the field trip).

Alameda High School Multimedia Teacher Andrea Szeto asked AEF for help in getting some fabulous posters created by students printed for display at the high school. AEF provided the funding to get this done.
