Encinal HS Juniors Bond After Difficult Time

The Juniors at Encinal High School participated in a field day where they played games together, ate a BBQ lunch, and got to know each other better.  These students were Freshmen during COVID, so they missed out on a lot of typical student social interactions during the pandemic. Class officers decided that it was important for the social-emotional health of the whole class (of approximately 250 students) to have a bonding event that would help build class spirit.

College Volleyball Hopeful Started with AEF Middle School Sports

Many student-athletes who begin their sports careers in AEF’s Middle School Sports program go on to serve as coaches and referees when they reach high school. Currently, Encinal’s coach is a former participant and the ACLC/Nea basketball and track programs regularly include former players in coaching roles.

We connected with one of these high schoolers, Naomi White, who is currently a senior at Encinal High School. Naomi started playing volleyball at Wood Middle School with the AEF Middle School Sports (MSS) program and continues to be involved in the program as a referee.

AEF Summer Camp – A 5-Star Review

My name is Amy and I took the circus arts camp from AEF. The circus arts camp was my favorite camp, and I have done a lot of camps. I mastered the stilts, floor, plate spinning, low bar, Diabolo, and more in my week of camp. We got a 20-minute break to go outside. We even got to try out a unicycle!

The instructors were very kind and energetic. There were a few kids who were challenging but the instructors were able to help them learn things,

From “Bummed Out” to Sports Star

spotlight-bb-feb16Daniel transferred to his new middle school in the beginning of 6th grade. After a few weeks, the AEF Middle School Sports coach, who is also a P.E. teacher at the school, noticed he was hanging by himself and had little enthusiasm. Daniel told the coach he was having a hard time making friends and was feeling  “bummed out”. The coach suggested sports as a way for him to get involved.
