Joscel Alcantara, an Extensive Support Needs teacher (for grades 2-5 at Ruby Bridges Elementary) received a grant to purchase items for the classroom store to inspire motivation for learners with special needs, including goals-based toys and materials to entice their interest. Learners will be motivated to do their everyday tasks and will have their interests kindled with the new materials.

Thank you to the Bank of Marin for granting $2,500 to Alameda Education Foundation to support AEF Teacher Mini Grants! With a specific focus on need, Teacher Mini Grants provide an opportunity for AUSD teachers to apply for items that will benefit their students but that are not covered in the school budget. Many of these grants focus on teachers at Title I schools and special programs, such as Special Ed and English Language Learning.

In the opening weeks of the 2024-25 school year, AUSD’s Student Services department partnered with Alameda Family Services to provide whole-class social emotional lessons for grades K-5. AUSD and AFS staff and therapists went into classrooms for 3 days of mini lessons focused on inclusivity, kindness, and being an ‘upstander’. AUSD Department of Student Services’ Cassie Ferguson, needed supplies for small arts and craft projects for students to create and take home or keep in the classroom as a reminder of the ideas and issues that were covered.
