Girls 2024 Basketball Championship Results

Congratulations to Encinal Jr. Jets and Lincoln Lions for capturing wins in the AEF Middle School Sports girls basketball championships! Both teams fought off challenges by the Wood Beaver teams to win the DII and DI Championships, respectively.

This was a great year for AEF girls basketball. Five middle school teams competed: Academy of Alameda, ACLC/Nea combined, Encinal Jr. Jets, Lincoln, and Wood. All 5 made the playoffs and 3 made the championships. There was great improvement from all teams over the course of the season. In fact, DII champions Encinal came from barely having enough girls for a single team last year, to winning their division this year and planning to add a second team next year!

AEF began running Middle School Sports in 2009 after it was cut from AUSD due to budget shortfalls. Since that time, the program has grown from 200 participants to 700! Our program includes coed volleyball, girls basketball, boys basketball, and track & field. AEF’s program is not like other youth leagues in that we incorporate academic and behavioral tie-ins to help prepare students for high school and program principles to support equity. You can learn more about it here.

AEF receives no district funding for this program, which costs upward of $100,000 per year. But the impact on our students is priceless!
