Lincoln Roars to Victory in Girls Basketball Championships

The Lincoln Middle School Lions roared to a double victory by clinching the Alameda Education Foundation’s (AEF) Girls Basketball championships in Division I and II. Capping an undefeated season, the Lincoln DI team faced off against the Wood Middle School Beavers on Jan. 24th to secure the championship by a score of 42 to 19. The prior week, Wood had narrowly defeated the Academy of Alameda to earn a chance to face the Lions.

Yoga for students with adaptive needs

Interview with Instructor of Yoga for Students with Adaptive Needs

As a part of our goal to serve as a critical bridge toward equitable and inclusive educational outcomes for Alameda public school students, AEF added classes for students with adaptive needs to our after school enrichment program in the fall of 2022.

Instructor Bernadette Whitman of Shine Yoga Arts was crucial to helping us add these classes. She is one of our most popular instructors, and now offers Yoga for Students with Adaptive Needs .

Naomi White refs volleyball

College Volleyball Hopeful Started with AEF Middle School Sports

Many student-athletes who begin their sports careers in AEF’s Middle School Sports program go on to serve as coaches and referees when they reach high school. Currently, Encinal’s coach is a former participant and the ACLC/Nea basketball and track programs regularly include former players in coaching roles.

We connected with one of these high schoolers, Naomi White, who is currently a senior at Encinal High School. Naomi started playing volleyball at Wood Middle School with the AEF Middle School Sports (MSS) program and continues to be involved in the program as a referee.

Constance Moore illustrator and educator

Artist and Teacher Constance Moore at Books Inc.

Books Inc. Alameda welcomes local illustrator Constance Moore to celebrate her illustrated picture book Black: The Many Wonders of My World, with a story time and art activity! Ms. Moore, who is also the art teacher at Maya Lin Elementary school in Alameda, is a featured artist for Alameda Education Foundation’s online Art Changes program, where local artists create videos introducing their work while weaving in stories of inspiration and perspective that reflect the rich diversity of the Bay Area.

Meet AEF Board Member Grace Caulfield

Board member Grace CaulfieldMeet our newest AEF Board Member, Grace Caulfield! Grace brings a wealth of experience to the AEF board with a strong background in marketing and resource development in the public sector along with vast experience volunteering in the non-profit arena.

Grace has two children in Alameda public schools and has long appreciated the work AEF does to support educational opportunities for students.

Grace considers herself a life-long learner and looks forward to working with the talents of our board and bringing her skills to the forefront of helping those most in need.
