Alameda’s Island Running Festival took place on September 24, 2023. Event organizers were excited to bring the Island running festival back after a 3 year break. All events began and ended on the historic and transformed Alameda Point, with a 5k, 10k and Half Marathon that utilized many of the new trails that have opened up since the last event.
AEF Board members and staff manned a booth at the event to encourage runners.
This article in the San Jose Mercury News underscores the need for AEF to continue to do the work that we do.There is simply not enough State funding to meet the needs of our public schools. AEF strives to fill the gaps by raising funds to support needs at lower-income schools, and by running programs that would otherwise not exist, like middle school sports, teacher mini grants and after school enrichment. Also, shout out to our own AEF’s Administrative Assistant as well as Love PTA President Vanessa Acevedo-Reed for her thoughtful contributions to this article!
Thank you to the Bank of Marin for granting $5,000 to Alameda Education Foundation to support AEF Teacher Mini Grants! With a specific focus on need, Teacher Mini Grants provide an opportunity for AUSD teachers to apply for items that will benefit their students but that are not covered in the school budget. Many of these grants focus on teachers at Title I schools and special programs, such as Special Ed and English Language Learning.
For the fourth year in a row, the Alameda Education Foundation has provided financial support for another full school year of Care Solace for the District. Care Solace is a complimentary and confidential care coordination service that connects AUSD students, staff, and families in need with appropriate mental health care services. The wraparound service provides equitable access to care regardless of coverage, including private insurance, Medicaid, and sliding scale options for those without insurance.
