Power Up For Learning Keeps Students Connected

All students deserve equal access to learning! But some families do not have the internet connection to ensure this access.

Students and families need:

  • Internet access to stay connected with their teacher and their classmates when they are in quarantine.
  • Ongoing access to communications from the Alameda Unified School District (AUSD) about class quarantines, updated Covid protocols, and other essential school information
  • The ability to complete school assignments that require internet connection.

While most families have the access they need, there are a few families for whom traditional internet solutions do not work. As one of our Title I elementary school parent liaisons shared: “One of our mothers is expressing great sadness that she is unable to afford the internet and that it will affect her child's social and emotional ability to connect with his teacher and classmates.”

AEF has committed to providing these families with hot spots and unlimited data using funding from a unique, sustainable program - Power Up for Learning.

Power Up for Learning is a joint program of AEF and Alameda Municipal Power (AMP) that provides an ongoing funding source for technology needs. AMP customers sign up to have a small amount added to their monthly power bill. AMP collects these funds and provide them to AEF to use for technology support.

Can you commit to $5 per month to help us provide internet to under-served students? If so, please sign up for Power Up for Learning today!
