Prom Party Packs a Powerful Punch
From Edison PTA President Tara Navarro:
“Edison School PTA recently held a Spring Auction & Gala 2023 to raise money for programs such as art and garden education, field trips and assemblies, classroom supplies, school and academic support, reading interventionist support, and much more. Because of COVID, this was the first time the event has been held since spring of 2019. The PTA chose to have an 80s-themed prom event which, in addition to helping to raise funds, was a FUN social event for our community. Attendees were able to socialize while bidding on items in a silent auction (room baskets with a variety of goods and services, special student/teacher events, and hosted parties), as well as a live auction (student art, unique excursions/items, and our Alameda Education Foundation “Fund-a-Need”). The event was incredibly successful overall – in terms of fundraising and community-building.”
“For about the past ten years Edison has included a Fund-a-Need component within the Spring Auction & Gala. With the Fund-a-Need component, the PTA is demonstrating its commitment to improving the lives of all members of the community, including students and families beyond Edison. The Edison PTA believes by choosing to highlight local organizations, the Edison PTA is making a positive impact on the Alameda community by supporting local organizations, promote community engagement, and make a positive impact on the lives of community members, especially within our local schools.”
“Edison selected the Alameda Education Foundation (AEF) as this year’s Fund-a-Need recipient. As a nonprofit organization that supports educational programs and opportunities for students in the Alameda Unified School District, AEF has a proven track record of promoting educational equity and supporting students from all backgrounds. When selecting a partner for this year’s auction it was the fact that the Alameda Education Foundation provides funding for a range of programs, including teacher mini-grants, music and arts programs, and summer camps, among others. The Edison PTA chose to support the teacher mini–grants in particular this year at our spring fundraising event because this seemed in line with Edison PTA’s goal to assure that resources are distributed fairly and effectively throughout the school district to create a more equitable and inclusive community for all.”
AEF is so grateful to Edison PTA for their generosity! We encourage other groups who are committed to supporting equity across the community to contact us to be your partner. AEF’s focus on equity includes support for Teacher Mini Grants, Mental Health Care, and School Supplies.
