Our Power Up for Learning Program Had a Positive Impact on Families

Power Up For Learning (PUFL) is a partnership of AEF and Alameda Municipal Power (AMP). AMP customers can sign up to add an add amount to their monthly power bill. AMP collected the funds and provides them to AEF to support technology needs and programs for AUSD students.

Our 2021-2022 PUFL donation totaled $11,376.99! Thank you to all AMP donors who support technology in our schools! Sign up today to help us grow this program to support more technology support and programs!

Renate Westbrooks, Parent Liaison Paden Elementary, reported back to AEF on the impact that our Power Up for Learning (PUFL) funding has had on several AUSD families in recent months.

In the past school year, these funds were used to purchase 20 internet ‘hot spots’. These were distributed to families who were unable to get free or reduced home internet connection offered by the internet providers through AUSD for a variety of reasons.

Hot sports have been distributed throughout the district including to students from Otis Elementary, Paden Elementary, Ruby Bridges Elementary, Wood Middle, and Encinal Jr. - Sr. HIgh School. Families report that they are grateful that their students are able to work independently from home with this technology.

While impacting 20 or so families may not seem like a lot, to these families already struggling with poverty, being able to keep their students connected so they can succeed academically and maintain important connections with their teachers and classmates makes a world of difference. This is another way that AEF is striving to address equity in our decision-making around program management.

Many thanks to Renate Westbrooks for her coordination of this program and to all of you who support PUFL. If you have not signed up, please consider doing so today! By committing to as little as $5 a month, you can make a world of difference for those in need.
