Salma Arastu describes her series Our Earth: Embracing All Communities where she has created communities of flowers, leaves, birds and mammals. These inked paintings draw on a tradition of art in the Middle East and Indian Subcontinent. Using colored pencils or markers; students are shown how to fill a large circle with flowers, bugs and fish to create their own community. Naturally, students can fill their circle with anything from nature.
