Students Succeeding with Equal Access to Technology

Ms. MacDonald is an Algebra and Geometry teacher at Encinal Jr. High School. Here is her original Mini Grant request:

"I am new to EJHS and I have a need for my students. My Algebra 1 and Geometry classes are in need of one class set of calculators. I was hoping that students would be able to purchase their own to use in math, physics, and other science classes, but that is not the case. My Geometry students will use the trigonometric functions in the spring and my Algebra classes need to be able to check their solutions quickly.

I am currently borrowing calculators from 3 different teachers when I have a class activity or a quiz when students need them. I would really love to have a class set of my own. The calculator that I like is 12.50 per calculator and I have 35 students in my class. I'm hoping they go on sale for thanksgiving break, but who knows. With tax I am estimating that the purchase will be around $500....Thanks so much for considering this request. "

She recently contacted AEF with this great news!

"My students are enjoying using our class set of calculators. More students are succeeding in our class because they all have equal access to this technology. Students can work on challenging problems and group activities now that they have a class set of calculators. Enjoy these photos of our students working in class!"
