Virginia Jourdan

Artist Biography

Virginia Jourdan describes her Civil Rights paintings with particular emphasis on Carnival, her abstract painting of Ruby Bridges. Using quick drying acrylic paint and stencils, Jourdan demonstrates how to add texture and depth in a painting. In the art project video, students are shown how to use simple shapes and bold color to make their own powerful drawings. Crayons are perfect for this project. Virginia Jourdan began making art when she was two-years-old; Ruby Bridges made history when she was six. These two woman are proof that kids can do amazing things.
