Winter 2019 Newsletter
Dear Friend,
We hope all our Alameda public school students have a great year! Here at the Alameda Education Foundation, we are launching many programs to provide additional learning opportunities for students.
PROGRAMS

All matches are at Alameda Point. DII matches take place at 4:00 PM and DI at 5:00 PM. You can check out the results here or come and watch the action in person! Girls basketball season is next on deck with games beginning December 10th. A full schedule is here.

We love Love, and Wood, and Encinal and…..
AEF has begun our 2019-2020 Adopt A Classroom presentations. Our priorities this year are new teachers and teachers-in-need at Alameda’s low-income schools, which include Love Elementary, Wood Middle, Encinal Jr.-Sr. High, Paden Elementary, Island High, and Ruby Bridges Elementary schools. On Nov. 7, we made 18 presentations at Love and Wood. On Nov. 14 we visited Encinal, Paden, Maya Lin, Island, and Ruby Bridges. You can view photos on the AEF Facebook page. Learn who has been adopted and how you can support our teachers on our website. Our goal is to support 70 new and in-need teachers at our low-income schools. Giving money directly to a teacher who uses it as they choose to support their classrooms is one of the best ways to make a direct impact on learning.
Thank you to this year’s Adopt A Classroom sponsors

AEF Welcomes New Board Member – Steven Mack
AEF is pleased to introduce our newest board member, Steven Mack. Steve brings a wealth of school-related experience to the AEF board, including service on several PTAs, school site councils, and the Measure A oversight committee. At the community level, Steve has worked as a grass-roots organizer on social justice issues. In his professional capacity, Steve is an Associate Scientist at Children’s Hospital Oakland Research Institute and an Associate Professor at the University of California San Francisco.
Steve joined AEF because he is interested in providing service to the Alameda community and support to the school district in particular. As a scientist, he advocates for improved, hands-on science education in AUSD at all educational levels. He has long been interested in instituting a district-wide all-grades science-fair competition that could feed into the county competition. Welcome, Steven!
