Bill’s Word: AEF Making a Difference!

Bill’s Word: AEF Making a Difference!

Dear Friend,

Tom* was having trouble convincing his middle school aged son John* that focusing on his studies was important, but when John had to miss the opening basketball game of the Alameda Education Foundation’s Middle School Sports program due to poor grades, it sunk in. The Foundation’s coaches and athletic director put together a plan to enable John to get his grades up and keep playing. Not only did John make the grades to complete the basketball season,

Bill’s Word: Thanksgiving

Bill’s Word: Thanksgiving

Dear Friend,

November is the month when we think about the true meaning of Thanksgiving. We at the Alameda Education Foundation have much to be thankful for.

1. I am very thankful that Diane Foster and Kathy Moehring have joined our Board of Directors! They bring experience, expertise and a commitment to our students. Welcome Diane and Kathy!

2. We have moved to our new offices in Historic Alameda High.

Bill’s Word: Thank You for Supporting Student Success!

Bill’s Word: Thank You for Supporting Student Success!

Dear Friend,

With the 2012-2013 school year wrapped up (and new year about to begin!), I’m writing to share with you the impact the Alameda Education Foundation made on student success, thanks to your support. Personally, I’ve heard from parents “thrilled” that their children have learned how to design their own video games in our Enrichment computer programming camp. I’ve witnessed the value of our Middle School Sports program’s academic tie-in that, as one parent put it,

Bill’s Word: Congratulations to the Class of 2013!

Bill’s Word: Congratulations to the Class of 2013!

Dear Friend,

Congratulations! The end of any school year is exciting. 2013 stands out as being very impressive for all our graduates. Seniors will be matriculating to the finest colleges and universities in America including Harvard, Harvey Mudd, Stanford, and most of the UCs and CSUs, as well as West Point and the Naval Academy, among many more. However, I was so impressed to hear the personal stories of four graduates who spoke at the “Educational Options”

Bill’s Word: A Holiday Reflection

Bill’s Word: A Holiday Reflection

Dear Friend,

The tragic event in Newtown occurred the day after our monthly Adopt A Classroom presentation day. I spent Thursday, December 13th with happy, cheering kindergartners and first graders. In fact, look at the picture taken by Kathie Woulfe at one presentation – happy smiling kids – our kids. My last presentation was made outside in the Kindergarten play yard at Haight to cheering Kindergartners. I got many hugs from the beautiful students.

You Can Make a Difference in Students’ Lives

Dear Friend,
I am writing to share a couple powerful stories about what a difference your support of the Alameda Education Foundation makes in students’ lives and to ask you to consider making a year-end financial contribution to support our vital work. You may click here to donate.

When Nathan* made his middle school volleyball team this fall, his coach thought he’d be thrilled. Instead, he turned it down. But the coach took the time to learn why and found out that Nathan struggles with trying anything new and thus had developed a knee-jerk reaction of saying no to everything.

Bill’s Word: Collaboration

Bill’s Word: Collaboration

Dear Friend,
Welcome back! It is an exciting time of year as the new school year begins. We at the Alameda Education Foundation (AEF) would especially like to welcome new staff, parents and students into our learning community.

Often there is a theme that defines the goals of a school year. For AEF, one has emerged loud and clear from our work over the summer as well as the last few years –

Bill’s Word: Thank you for Supporting Student Success!

Dear Friend,

I’m writing to share with you the impact the Alameda Education Foundation has made on student success thanks to your support.  Personally, I have witnessed teachers crying when receiving a $500 Adopt A Classroom with students cheering their teachers and watched the most exciting middle school basketball game ever when Lincoln and Wood competed for the A girls championship at the Boys & Girls Club. But the impact goes beyond that.
