Thank You Bank of Marin!

Thank you to the Bank of Marin for granting $5,000 to Alameda Education Foundation to support AEF Teacher Mini Grants! With a specific focus on need, Teacher Mini Grants provide an opportunity for AUSD teachers to apply for items that will benefit their students but that are not covered in the school budget. Many of these grants focus on teachers at Title I schools and special programs, such as Special Ed and English Language Learning.

AEF Supports Field Trip to SF for English Language Learners

English Language Learners take field trip to SFEnglish Learners sporting “Multilingualism is my Super Power!” t-shirts took a field trip to San Francisco last week to see the sights, practice English, and revel in being someone who speaks more than one language. (The t-shirts were paid for by a grant from the Alameda Education Foundation to help instructors keep track of students on the field trip).

AHS Dance Multimedia poster

Posters A Collaboration Between AHS Dance and Multimedia Programs

Alameda High School Multimedia Teacher Andrea Szeto asked AEF for help in getting some fabulous posters created by students printed for display at the high school. AEF provided the funding to get this done.

Field Trip to UC Merced

Students Visit UC Merced to Inspire College Dreams

College & Career Counselor, Lee Kaplan, asked AEF to help fund lunch and snacks for a group of 45 students (grades 9-12) on their field trip to UC Merced. AEF was happy to help.

Kaplan wrote: “We had a fabulous time on the UC Merced field trip. That campus is so clean and new. They’ve got great STEM and Engineering programs. And very reasonable housing options. A UC education in small setting!

Field trip to USS Hornet

Students Learn WWII History on the Hornet

Encinal High School teacher, Jarred Fobian, needed assistance with funding to take his students on a field trip to the USS Hornet, to learn about US and local history related to WWII.

He wrote: “Thank you so very much for helping fund our field trip! Students who attended were put into groups and learned about how the Hornet was part of the Space Race, WWII, new technology and about Japanese Internment as well as the 442nd.

Encinal Student Wins Photography Award

Alameda Education Foundation is a strong supporter of AUSD’s Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways program that provides hands-on learning designed to prepare students with 21st century job skills.

CTE Program Director Felicia Vargas reached out to AEF for help with a special project. Maggie Adams, a  CTE Digital Film pathway teacher at Encinal Junior & Senior High School (EJSHS), includes essential elements of photo composition in her course. Ms. Adams recently shared her students’

Ruby Bridges Family Listening Event

Sponsoring African American and Multi-Ethnic Family Session

Danielle Pharr-Matthews, Principal at Ruby Bridges Elementary, wanted to create a special event for families in her school community where African American and Multi-ethnic parents, guardians and students would be able to share stories and ask questions in a caring environment. Danielle asked AEF to help sponsor this event and we were happy to do so as it was aligned with our focus on equity.
