Supporting Student Success – December 2016

Message from the AEF President
bill-sonnemanDear Friend,

On behalf of the Alameda Education Foundation staff and the entire Board, we wish you Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year.

We are very proud of our accomplishments at the AEF that have benefited so many of our students and teachers in Alameda public schools.  School supplies for students in need, after school enrichment classes, middle school sports and 160 classroom adoptions are only part of how we have positively impacted the educational environment in the Alameda schools this year.

To continue to accomplish our mission of “supporting student success” we need your help. During this Season Of Giving please consider supporting the AEF with a donation. If you have received a “Year End Appeal“ this is the time to mail in the appeal. It is also very easy to donate by going to our Ways to Give page.  We could not continue our work as we enter our 35th year supporting our students and teachers without your support.

Sincerely,

Thank You Quest Foundation

AEF is the recipient of a generous grant from the Quest Foundation that will support our Middle School Sports programs. Over 600 student-athletes participate in after school athletics through this program, including volleyball in the fall, girls and boys basketball in the winter and track & field in the spring. Students benefit from an organized sports league that promotes sportsmanship, fitness and goal-setting and includes an academic tie-in.

Thank you Alameda Welfare Council and Alameda Rotary Club

Alameda homeless, formerly homeless and low-income students will once again receive quality new backpacks and school supplies before the start of school thanks to grants from the Alameda Welfare Council and Alameda Rotary Club for our Equipped 4 Success program. Learn more about this program and our partnerships that make it possible.

The Alameda Welfare Council will also be making an impact in the classroom with a grant to our Adopt A Classroom program. Thank you also the the Alameda Kiwanis Club for their annual contribution to our Adopt A Classroom program.

Supporting teachers, making an impact!

As of December, we will have adopted 160 teachers this school year through our Adopt a Classroom program. Our goal for 2016-2017 is 200! Please help us reach our goal by adopting a teacher today! Your “open” adoption enables us to direct your donation to teachers most in need. Read what one teacher had to say: “This is truly an amazing experience. I am thrilled beyond belief. I feel like I am treated as an educational professional when I can choose how to spend the donation as I deem appropriate for my class. That should never change.”

AEF’s Basketball program begins after the winter break

Our girls games begin in January and the boys season follows. Be sure to check out the schedule and results here.
