AEF and Rhythmix are announcing the 2023 Art Changes student exhibition opening:
Saturday, May 6 from 2 – 4pm.

The exhibit runs through June 24 and includes work by four Art Changes artists: blacksmith Celeste Flores, abstract painter Ken Gotuaco, children’s book illustrator Constance Moore and ‘en plein air’ painter Claire Lau.

Students are finding inspiration from books, famous artists, cultural inspirations, and even science in their artwork currently on display at Alameda public libraries, Books Inc. and Lilac Dress Boutique in Alameda. For example, an Edison 4th grade class looked at scientific photos taken under the microscope and viewed work by contemporary artists who incorporate science, medicine and the microscopic world in their art. In the new artist videos, you’ll meet 5 gifted Bay Area artists who have made short, engaging videos about their work.

Alameda High School’s (AHS) Career Technical Education (CTE) students used their design skills to turn art into activism by producing powerful posters that promote vaccines, ecology and anti-racism. These posters are on display in the windows of Books Inc. (1344 Park St.) and Lilac Dress Boutique (1918 Encinal Ave.).
The artworks are part of Alameda Education Foundation’s (AEF) Art Across the Island.

Bay Farm middle schoolers studied lunar landscapes taken by the Hubble Telescope to inspire their artwork. Franklin students were inspired by Jackson Pollack and Ruby Bridges students by Monet. Academy of Alameda students thought about individuals who have made a difference in the world and honored them with collage portraits.
These are just a few samples of student artwork now on display as part of the Alameda Education Foundation’s “Art Across the Island,”
Haight Elementary School students Christina, Laura and Enna put the finishing touches on their italian marbled paper, which was on display display as part of the Alameda Education Foundation’s “Art Across the Island” project. “Art Across the Island” is a two-year project that will feature visual and literary art produced by Alameda public school students. Artwork can be seen at various venues throughout Alameda from October 2017 – April 2018.
