School supplies drive

It Began With a Backpack

When the Alameda Education Foundation (AEF) began running our annual backpack and school supply drive in 2012, the Alameda Point Collaborative (APC) was one of our first community partners. According to APC Children and Youth Manager Sara Christensen, APC initially lined up backpacks on a table for parents to pick up. But the staff at APC soon recognized that AEF’s annual donation of backpacks and school supplies provided an opportunity to do much more for their families.

AEF’s Virtual Salute to Education 2021
May 20, 6 – 7:30 PM

It has been a challenging year to say the least. We are amazed at how our schools pulled together, got creative, and worked through this pandemic. To celebrate and honor this hard work, Alameda Education Foundation (AEF) is hosted a virtual “Salute to Education” event on May 20th at 6:00 PM. Each AUSD school site will had the opportunity to share how they supported student learning during the pandemic.

AEF Jack Capon winners 2019

AEF Announces Jack Capon Honorees

Bay Farm 8th graders Caedmon Serrano and Colin Ng proudly show off the Jack Capon awards they received from the Alameda Education Foundation (AEF). The annual awards are presented in honor of Jack Capon, a long time Alameda Unified School District (AUSD) educator who specialized in physical education. Mr. Capon was a tireless advocate for physical fitness and movement. He founded the original AUSD middle school sports program and Alameda’s Special Olympics and was an author of many books on movement.

Ruby Bridges wins Robotics competition

Ruby Bridges Elementary Sweeps Local Robotics Competition

The Ruby Bridges robotics teams show off their trophies from the third annual Alameda Robotics competition, which was held on May 11, 2019 at Wood Middle School. The Robotics competition is a partnership of the Alameda Robotics Center under the director of Wood Middle School teacher Nga Nguyen, Wood Middle School, and the Alameda Education Foundation (AEF).

Robotics Competition

Over 80 students participate in Robotics competition!

Members of the Ruby Bridges robotics team work on their spacecraft during the 2018 Robotics competition for students in grades 4 – 8 that was held at Wood Middle School on May 12th. Over 80 students representing 12 teams from 6 Alameda public schools participated in the competition. First place went to Wood Middle School’s Well Done Pepes. A tie for second was between the Franklin Elementary Vaccines and Bay Farm Dolphins.
