AEF Tables at Alameda Bike Festival

Alameda Bike Festival 2024, on April 27 at Love Elementary School, was very popular. The annual citywide event, sponsored by the City of Alameda, the Alameda Recreation and Parks Department, the PTA Council, Love PTA, Kiwanis, and ARPD, featured a variety of activities, from free bike repairs to cycling classes for kids and helmet decorating.

AEF had a table manned by Rachel Plato, our Enrichment Programs Director, with information on our Summer Camps and After School Enrichment program.

AEF Executive Director Vicki Sedlack Wins Community Award!

On April 25, 2024, AEF Executive Director, Vicki Sedlack, attended the Alameda Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards and was honored to receive the Community Leader of the Year Award!

Looking for Summer Camp youth leaders

Looking for Youth Leaders!

AEF is looking for Volunteer Youth Leaders for this year’s Summer Camp program! The application process is currently open to all students 15- 17 yrs old. This is a great opportunity to earn volunteer hours while working with camp instructors and children over the summer.

Summer Camp Youth Leaders will gain:

  • Gain leadership skills, demonstrated responsibility and teamwork experience as a camp leader working with young students.
  • Experience a real-world job application and interview process in a safe environment.

Artists Featured for Black History Month

In celebration of Black History Month (February), AEF is highlighting 7 African American visual artists and 1 poet who are participants in our Art Changes program. All 8 artists made short videos where they explained (and sometimes demonstrated) their work. Each visual artist video is accompanied by an art activity video made by 2 film students of color. The poetry video is accompanied by an instructional PDF slideshow.

2024 Girls Basketball

Girls 2024 Basketball Championship Results

Congratulations to Encinal Jr. Jets and Lincoln Lions for capturing wins in the AEF Middle School Sports girls basketball championships! Both teams fought off challenges by the Wood Beaver teams to win the DII and DI Championships, respectively.

This was a great year for AEF girls basketball. Five middle school teams competed: Academy of Alameda, ACLC/Nea combined, Encinal Jr. Jets, Lincoln, and Wood. All 5 made the playoffs and 3 made the championships.
