AEF and Rhythmix are announcing the 2023 Art Changes student exhibition opening:
Saturday, May 6 from 2 – 4pm.

The exhibit runs through June 24 and includes work by four Art Changes artists: blacksmith Celeste Flores, abstract painter Ken Gotuaco, children’s book illustrator Constance Moore and ‘en plein air’ painter Claire Lau.

Students are finding inspiration from books, famous artists, cultural inspirations, and even science in their artwork currently on display at Alameda public libraries, Books Inc. and Lilac Dress Boutique in Alameda. For example, an Edison 4th grade class looked at scientific photos taken under the microscope and viewed work by contemporary artists who incorporate science, medicine and the microscopic world in their art. Taking inspiration from the shapes, patterns and colors observed, while keeping in mind composition,

New artwork from Alameda students is on display at several Alameda libraries and Books Inc. through Alameda Education Foundation’s Art Across the Island program.
Students from Love Elementary School teacher Scott Hixon’s third-grade class made abstract drawings, which they cut apart and then wove with pieces of construction paper. Their pieces are inspired by artist Miguel Arzabe, who is known for filling canvases with paint then cutting them into strips and weaving the pieces into a completely new work.
