Ruby Bridges Elementary Sweeps Local Robotics Competition

The Ruby Bridges robotics teams show off their trophies from the third annual Alameda Robotics competition, which was held on May 11, 2019 at Wood Middle School. The Robotics competition is a partnership of the Alameda Robotics Center under the director of Wood Middle School teacher Nga Nguyen, Wood Middle School, and the Alameda Education Foundation (AEF).

Robotics Competition

Over 80 students participate in Robotics competition!

Members of the Ruby Bridges robotics team work on their spacecraft during the 2018 Robotics competition for students in grades 4 – 8 that was held at Wood Middle School on May 12th. Over 80 students representing 12 teams from 6 Alameda public schools participated in the competition. First place went to Wood Middle School’s Well Done Pepes. A tie for second was between the Franklin Elementary Vaccines and Bay Farm Dolphins.

Student Art Across the Island

Bay Farm middle schoolers studied lunar landscapes taken by the Hubble Telescope to inspire their artwork. Franklin students were inspired by Jackson Pollack and Ruby Bridges students by Monet. Academy of Alameda students thought about individuals who have made a difference in the world and honored them with collage portraits.

Art Across the Island

Art Across the IslandHaight Elementary School students Christina, Laura and Enna put the finishing touches on their italian marbled paper, which was on display display as part of the Alameda Education Foundation’s “Art Across the Island” project.  “Art Across the Island” is a two-year project that will feature visual and literary art produced by Alameda public school students.  Artwork can be seen at various venues throughout Alameda from October 2017 – April 2018.

Let’s Change a Life Together

Dear Friend,

Eighth grader Jason wanted to try out for his middle school’s volleyball team this fall, but the coach was reticent.  The prior year, Jason had a poor attitude and received grades far below the team’s minimum grade point average of a C+.  But Jason was insistent, telling the coach he wanted to turn his life around and make his mother proud of him.  The coach gave him a chance and worked with school administrators to get him academic support.
