Supporting Student Success: September 2015

Dear Friend,

Welcome Back!! The beginning of the academic year is always exciting. Walking your child to kindergarten on the first day of school or wishing your senior good luck on his or her last AUSD year is exciting and memorable.

We at the Alameda Education Foundation wish the best for all our Alameda students. Our mission to support student success will continue throughout the school year. There are AEF programs that can assist students from kindergarten through 12th grade.

Bill’s Word – Community

Bill’s Word – Community

Dear Friend,

Since 2012, Equipped 4 Success has been helping Alameda’s most vulnerable children begin the school year with new backpacks filled with school supplies. I am writing to ask for your financial support for this important effort.

Equipped 4 Success is a community wide school supply drive that supports homeless, formerly homeless and low-income Alameda Kindergarten – 12th grade students with new backpacks and quality, grade-appropriate school supplies that they need to be ready to learn on the first day of school.

Bill’s Word – Congratulations!

Bill’s Word – Congratulations!

Dear Friend,

Congratulations to our graduating seniors! Whatever path you take next, college or career, we at the Alameda Education Foundation wish you the very best.

I have always thought that the success of a student is not measured by their accomplishments in school but by what they do afterwards. Many of our graduates are now highly successful in a variety of fields and that is the proof of a strong school system.

These are just a few of the programs being recognized at the Alameda Education Foundation’s annual Salute to Education event on April 24,

Bill’s Word – A New Record!

Bill’s Word – A New Record!

Dear Friend,

A new record. Wow! My intrepid co-presenter Kathie Woulfe and I just completed our 189th Adopt A Classroom presentation for the year. This is 19 more than our goal and a new record. To put it in perspective, six years ago we did 39 adoptions, and we have now topped that by 150. This year, $94,500 has been donated to classrooms thanks to generous members of our community, such as realtors and zombies.

Bill’s Word: Giving Back!

Bill’s Word: Giving Back!

Dear Friend,

As president of the AEF, I have had the privilege to give hundreds of Adopt A Classroom gift cards to teachers across our community. I have seen teachers cry, jump up and down, and show complete surprise when given $500 for their classrooms. Each adoption is unique coming with an interesting background story. However, my favorite and most powerful adoption occurred last Thursday. I was to give an adoption to the outstanding  Wood Middle School music instructor,
