January 2018 Newsletter
Message from the AEF President
Dear Friend,
Happy New Year!! Just as the Alameda School District is back in full swing so is the Alameda Education Foundation. We continue our Adopt A Classroom efforts. Thank you to all Adopt A Classroom donors, you have made a difference in so many Alameda classrooms. In fact it appears that approximately 40% of our teachers will be adopted this year. Who knows, someday we will reach 100%.
Middle School Sports are progressing as well. Our Girls basketball championships will be held next week with the Boys season to follow. This year we will have 12 boys teams, two from all our participating schools. Thank you Marty Garchar, our athletic director who monitors every game.
We are moving to our next season of after school enrichment classes as well as SAT prep classes.
Please mark your calendars for the 35th Salute to Education held this year on April 27th at Rhythmix. More details will follow here.
Finally, thank you to everyone who responded to our end-of-year fundraising appeal. We sincerely appreciate your support as we work to support the many educational opportunities we provide for Alameda students.
It continues to be an honor and a pleasure to serve as president of the AEF.
All the best,
Bill Sonneman

Adopt A Classroom
We have adopted 167 teachers this school year – that is about 38% of all teachers. Wouldn’t it be great if we could adopt 50% – 220 – teachers this year? One-hundred percent of each $500 adoption goes straight to the teacher who uses the funds to support their classroom. Click here to learn how you can make a direct impact on Alameda classrooms!
Thank you to the 2017-2018 Adopt A Classroom program sponsors who have enabled 100% of each donation to go to the teacher: Pump Repair Service Co./Dave and Joanne Archer, Star Harbor Alameda, Catellus/Alameda Landing, Bill and Lois Sonneman, and a friend of Alameda teachers. If you can help support this vital program next year, please contact AEF Executive Director Vicki Sedlack at Vicki@AlamedaEducation.org.
